What Font Does Lily-Flame Use On Their Scented Tins?

A friend of mine mentioned liking a range of candles called Lily-Flame. I really like the design of the packaging. I wanted to try to find out which font is used on the front.

There are around 64 different scented tins to choose from! Don’t they look pretty?

It was really difficult, I couldn’t find the answer! I don’t think the font is available on the internet. How disappointing!

Meeting With the Client – Trying an Idea

I asked the client to meet me to discuss the website. I showed him some typefaces to see if he liked them.

He wasn’t keen on these typefaces so I asked what type of thing he’d prefer. He pointed me back to this:

He also said he likes the image of a ship’s wheel. I did a Google Image search to have a look. Perhaps this could be used in the background on the site?

Interesting to see that Merriment may have used a free font for their design!

Radikal

I first found this typeface in my APP1. However I didn’t really pay particular attention to it at the time. I came across it again when I was looking for a typeface for this project.

I really like it!

Sadly I’m unable to use this typeface for my project because I don’t have it, so I had to look for another. I put these three different weights into myfonts.com and whatfontis.com to try to find a typeface with a similar look.

So I decided to use Halis Grotesque since its very similar. I think its quite a striking typeface so it should make a good effect.

Acclaimed Web Design – Trendy Typeface – Wallmob Site

I have been looking through sites which showcase (and in some instances award) the best web design. The Wallmob site is one that has been mentioned on many of these sites including:
http://www.thebestdesigns.com/2013/08/26/wallmob-2/
http://abduzeedo.com/sites-week-telegraph-creative-swiftly-wallmob-and-more
http://www.csswinner.com/details/wallmob-as/5584/
http://www.cssdesignawards.com/sites/wallmob-a-s/18739/

Wallmob is a Danish-based company that primarily focuses on POS systems. The design is very clean and minimal. Each page has a small amount of type on it. The menu at the bottom of the first page looks very modern and classy.
fs
https://www.wallmob.com/

The ‘patented back office’ section has a simple animation which catches your eye but doesn’t fully distract you from the rest of the information. Its clever how the background is consecutively coloured white and light grey to show the different pages/sections. The other thing that’s interesting is the way they have two bottom bars. I don’t recall seeing this very often.

There is also a menu at the side which pops out when you click on the menu button.
Picture 2
https://www.wallmob.com/

When you scroll down, the menu at the bottom moves up and stays in position at the top of the page so you can easily jump from one section to another.

I love the typeface. I found it. Its Raleway Thin.

Conclusion
I can see why this site has been mentioned on so many of the web design sites. It has a very clean design with a pop of bright blue. The menu which stays at the top of the page is a trend I have seen on other sites. You can stop on nearly any section and the design is really powerful. Each section looks like the main attraction. I dont think I’ve seen many sites achieve this before.

At first I thought three menus is too much and wondered why they had gone overboard like this. Having a click around, I’m still a bit confused. I think the main point is that the main page is one long page so the designer wants the viewer to be able to find a link and jump to their desired subject and not scroll up and down endlessly as this is time consuming and irritating. There is a lot to think about here and keep in mind for my future designs.

Bang On Trend Typography: London Grammar

I accidentally came across this band. I was immediately attracted to their album covers! Although I am not making an album cover I can still learn from this type of Graphic Design as the skills are transferable.

Conclusion
I’m really glad I found the typeface used by the London Grammar. It’s very modern and on trend. I don’t know yet if I’ll be able to use it or not. I’d really like to but I don’t know if it’ll be appropriate or not. All the other typefaces I found are useful as a record. I never know when a similar typeface will come in useful.

I really like the images used as well. I’ve always been a fan of images with a dark and light contrast. It’s interesting that they’ve used some blurred photography. I really like the image used for the Switch Remix. The plum colour at the top turns into a green turquoise colour at the bottom. It also has the contrast between light and dark. I’m not sure if photography like this would be appropriate for this project but it is something to keep in mind as an option. The type looks bright and eye-catching on the picture of the band playing live.

Something I just noticed. Look what happens when you change the kerning of the type. It really changes the whole appearance. I can see why the London Grammar overlap the ‘AMMA’ part.

Interesting Typefaces – Prism By Katy Perry

I think I came across this when I read that Katy Perry now has more followers on Twitter than Justin Bieber. I was impressed by the interesting typefaces used.

The pointy M is interesting.

This is pretty cool. I like the way the dark parts hit the light parts. It also has a 3D quality to it. It’s quite difficult to explain. I like the pretty colours too. It reminds me of looking at oil and you can see different colours. Strange that the I and the S don’t have the darker parts. I assume this is custom work. I’d love to design something like this.

Conclusion

After looking so hard I think the above, or at least some of the above are Brandon Grotesque. When typefaces are available in different weights it always fools me. I would definitely consider using this typeface is my future designs.
